DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS IN YOUR
PET’S FOOD?
Your friend’s health may depend on it!
Poor quality pet foods can be a source of chronic infections,
allergies, and other health problems, in addition to impacting behavior
and learning (thus trainability).
Pet foods may contain potentially harmful chemicals in the form of
additives, preservatives, colorants, and “nutrients.”
Dogs are carnivores. They are not designed to digest and process
grains as a primary food source. Many pet foods contain far too many
grains.
Pet foods may contain substandard ingredients, such as 3-D/4-D
meats (disabled, dying, diseased, dead) and grains and vegetables
considered unfit for human consumption.
Pet food labels do not necessarily list ALL ingredients.
Manufacturers are only required to list ingredients they themselves
add. Ingredients introduced by sources such as rendering plants don’t
have to be listed.
A food meeting “AAFCO standards” may not be a reliable way to determine the quality and nutritional
value of pet food. [See http://home.att.net/~wdcusick/04.html for more info.]
Some dog foods were confirmed in 1998 by the FDA/CVM to contain pentobarbital, the drug most
commonly used to euthanize animals. [Results of that study, including the names of foods tested, are available at http://www.fda.gov/cvm/FOI/dfchart.htm.]

Grain-fed beef can have an omega 6:3 ratio higher than 20:1
J. Anim. Sci. 2000. 78:2849-2855
This well exceeds the 4:1 ratio that is recommended to avoid an essential fat imbalance. Also grain-fed beef can have over 50% of the total fat as the far less healthy saturated fat.
Grass-fed beef has an omega 6:3 ratio of 0.16 to 1
This is the ratio science suggests is ideal for our diet. This is about the same ratio that fish has. Grass-fed beef usually has less than 10% of its fat as saturated. If you are a pregnant or breastfeeding mom, the extra omega-3 from the grass-fed beef will provide incredible nutritional benefits for your child
We Know That Grass-Fed Beef, Unlike Grain-Fed Beef, Is:
A natural source of omega 3 fats
High in CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)
Full of beta carotene
Loaded with over 400% more of vitamins A and E
Virtually devoid of risk of Mad Cow Disease
CLA is a naturally occurring fat found in animal and dairy fats such as beef and poultry that are not fed grains. As soon as you start to feed cattle grain they start to lose their ability to produce CLA. Animals that graze on pasture have from 300% to 400% more CLA than animals fattened on grain in a feedlot
